This weeks class we discussed climates and seasons. We went over the definition of each; weather describes the current and predicted temperature, wind/air/humidity conditions of a particular ecosystem. Where as climate is the historical weather conditions of a particular ecosystem. We discussed which season we are in currently; late Spring. The kids discovered that Los Angeles is a Mediterranean climate and has two primary growing seasons; warm and cold. The kids were able to teach each other about the fruits and vegetables that prefer warm or cold weather by sharing clues and calling on a student to guess which weather condition it prefers. We finished with a snack of red and orange beet slices and hummus. The kids correctly guessed that beets prefer cool weather conditions to grow.
