This weeks class we discussed climates and seasons. We went over the definition of each; weather describes the current and predicted temperature, wind/air/humidity conditions of a particular ecosystem. Where as climate is the historical weather conditions of a particular ecosystem. We discussed which season we are in currently; late Spring. The kids discovered that Los Angeles is a Mediterranean climate and has two primary growing seasons; warm and cold. The kids were able to teach each other about the fruits and vegetables that prefer warm or cold weather by sharing clues and calling on a student to guess which weather condition it prefers. Finally we discussed how certain plants go dormant at different times of the year, and then we went out into the garden to look for a dormant plant, which we found–a sage plant.
