The Utah Street garden was very productive over Winter Break! Many of our cool season crops were ripe and ready for harvest! From beautiful cauliflower to sweet sugar snaps to a spicy mix of salad greens, the garden couldn’t be happier.
The boys and girls were so excited to see how much everything had grown over break, so we started off class with a garden exploration. Utah students never forget to use our “two-finger touch” rule while in the garden.
Next the students learned about the different types of soil and their characteristics. Some types of soil were already known by many of the students, such as sand and clay. Other types, such as silt and loam, were new words to most.
To end the class, the students were each given a bit of clay soil. We made seed balls using flower seeds that the students were able to take with them! Some classes will be planting the seeds at school while others will be looking for a nice spot at home to grow their flowers.
