Yay to Cauliflower @ Primary Academy!
Last week at Primary Academy, we planted cool weather veggies in the garden. Seeds of broccoli, carrots and snap peas were sowed into the beds and seedlings of mustard, Chinese cabbage and kale were transplanted as well.
This week, we had a special treat for a snack. My lovely volunteer and nutritional science major, Lalita, made a yummy cauliflower salad with the kids. We discussed the benefits of eating cauliflower and checked out the awesome purple, white and green varieties that were put into the salad. The kids all DEVOURED this salad! Below is the recipe, if you don’t believe me, try it yourself!
One head of Cauliflower (any color or mix them like we did!)
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup chopped basil
one lime squeezed
salt and pepper to taste

Talk to the class about pollination today. The kids identified the stamen and pollen on the flowers in the garden. They also took herbs from the garden lemon balm, mint, lavender, sage. They also identified the pollen on some herb plants.

This was a great exercise for the kids especially Udie. Chelsea the OT specialist at Vanes and I partner to play with our students at Vaness. Udie also helped to crush roasted eggshells for the compost.
