On Friday students in Mr. Carrasco’s class cooked up some potatoes and leafy greens from the garden. They learned about and used a new spice called Allepo Pepper. This spice served as a social-science lesson for students because it is imported from Syria. Due to recent conflict and unrest in the country, it’s no wonder that the spice has been really hard to come by. Fortunately, last week it was back at the Spice Station so I seized the moment and bought 12 ounces!
Four students became well-acquianted with the spice and sautéed up a nice mid-morning snack. Freshly picked bok choy and kale were added to potatoes. To help highlight the unique Allepo Pepper, we added lemon juice and a touch of salt.
Overall, the students really liked the new spice. Here’s one of the student chefs getting ready to serve the snack.
