We harvested and had a fantastic autumn salad at Luther Burbank with kale, pomegranate, basil, mint, cherry tomatoes, and chives. We dressed it with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and orange juice. It was a very fitting meal for our discussion of the climate in Southern California, which is Mediterranean with rain only in the colder months and hot dry summers.
We also planted some dragonfruit and peas. We’ve had problems with the bunnies and squirrels eating and digging up the seeds we plant, so after some discussion we decided to cover them with trays to protect the peas. Fingers crossed!
