Learning to compost with worms at Lexington

IMG_7315IMG_7357 This week we learned about soil and compost at Lexington. We discussed the various reasons we plant seeds in soil including to keep them warm, give them a foundation to grow, nutrients, and moisture. We then learned about how composting makes new soil using organic matter. We put the fresh organic matter from pervious classes into our soil and mixed it in to prepare the bed for new soil. We then started a new vermicompost with recycled paper and rinds from our snack, honeydew melon!
