We had a new rotation at Toluca Lake Elementary School Garden this morning. I and my new intern, Andrea, welcomed the students into the garden by challenging them to a leaf scavenger hunt! We split off into groups and each group was given a handful of leaves. They were tasked with finding the plant they came from by using their noses,, eyes and hands. They found sage, tomato leaves, geraniums, and mint.
We also planted some corn seeds where the garlic was pulled out last week. We discovered arugula seed pods hidden among the nasturtium so Andrea was able facilitate a quick seed saving lesson. The kids were able to take home arugula seeds AND nasturtium seeds today. Everybody wins!
