Leaf Hunt and Seed Discovery at Toluca Lake

IMG_2121We had a new rotation at Toluca Lake Elementary School Garden this morning. I and my new intern, Andrea, welcomed the students into the garden by challenging them to a leaf scavenger hunt! We split off into groups and each group was given a handful of leaves.  They were tasked with finding the plant they came from by using their noses,, eyes and hands. They found sage, tomato leaves, geraniums, and mint.IMG_2119

We also planted some corn seeds where the garlic was pulled out last week.  We discovered arugula seed pods hidden among the nasturtium so Andrea was able facilitate a quick seed saving lesson.  The kids were able to take home arugula seeds AND nasturtium seeds today. Everybody wins!
