Today at Hollenbeck Elementary School we focused on getting the garden in tip-top shape as summer comes to a close and our wonderful children start coming in!
We harvested, deadheaded, weeded, and took out a lot of overgrown winter crops such as kohlrabi and cabbage. We tended to our ever expanding strawberry patch that has been consistently producing for 5 years strong! Cutting back their dead leaves and replanting the stragglers who escaped outside of the bed.
We finished off the morning planting. One of our favorite things to do at Enrich LA is replant seeds collected from our garden so no stage of the plant cycle is skipped. We collected the seeds from old sunflowers that had dried out and replanted new ones along the fencing the fence in their place!
Thanks to our great crew of new interns we left the garden looking beautiful and are looking forward to the coming school year!
