Last week at Glenfeliz we learned about compost! The rain hit hard, so several classes had to be taught indoors, but the plants sure loved the rain.

I turned the compost so that all the lovely black compost soil was visible to the kids, and we took some time to check out what sorts of bugs we could find in the freshly turned bin. We talked about the sorts of things that are compostable, such as fruit and veggie scraps, and how invertebrates and fungus work to break those things down.

I gave each class a bucket to collect some food scraps from breakfast and lunch, so we can work on making some nice soil.
