Students at Glassell Park Elementary learned about the different components that make up healthy soil. We explored the soil for various critters, and we prepared a garden bed for planting.
Students planted Fava beans in our newly prepared garden bed. Fava beans are good for the soil because they help fix nitrogen in the soil. Fava beans are not only a good cool-season cover crop, but they are also delicious to eat!
Check out our turnip sprouts!
If you look closely, you can see the white pea flower almost in bloom. Soon we will have some yummy sugar snap peas to taste.
Ranger Ashley and Garden Intern Sara added some color to the Glassell garden by planting snapdragons and foxgloves. Pretty!
Happy gardening and healthy eating,
