Some fun on the last day of garden class!

November 10th marked the last day of garden class for the first rotation of students. Many of the students were sad to know that they wouldn’t be coming to more classes, but know they are more than welcome to come visit.

Since it was our last class, we did a quick review of what we have learned so far. I had planned a mini work day for the kids, so they could get their hands in the soil! We had some garden beds that needed some lovin’ and compost. Each class got one garden bed, with a big bag of soil. The goal was to finish the whole bag before class ended. Everyone got several turns to grab soil to fill the garden bed, which the kids enjoyed!

It was like a relay race to finish the bag of soil!

After finishing the bag of soil, we spread out the soil evenly.

Our 4th graders, the last class of the day, got to do a finishing touch by planting some seedlings! I finished off by spreading compost on all beds, and planting some seeds. At the end, we had a nice little treat, broccoli and hummus!

Broccoli and lettuce seedlings went into the finished bed!

Mrs. Hong 1st grade class had Bee’s and Pollination for their makeup class, as they stay on for the second rotation of classes.
