Today was an extra special day in our garden class, because we had a  Hawk come visit us right at the beginning of our first class.  He flew around the yard for about 15 minutes next to the garden catching mice, as the kids watched in amazement.  What started out as just a lesson about seeds, ended up in a conversation about the ecosystem and how how hawks play an important role in ours as they help keep rodent populations in balance.  After our hawk friend left we read ‘A Seed is Sleepy’ and learned all about Seeds!  We learned about seed dispersal, seed anatomy, and what a seed needs to grow.  After our lesson the kids got to plant their own seeds, and taste some Nasturtium flowers!

Check out the video of the hawk in the link above!
