A Celebration of Gardens at Bryson Elementary

On the last day of their six week rotation of gardening classes, students got into groups to make posters demonstrating what they learned. Their posters ranged from the plant cycle to the long-horned beetle attacking the California Oak.

The students also presented their posters to their classmates and fielded questions from the audience.

“Do you have any friends [of the garden] in your poster?”

The question was about beneficial insects, but after these six weeks, the students are friends and caretakers of the garden, too.

To the fourth grade classes of Mr. Gonzalez and Mr. Diaz; and the fifth grade class of Mrs. Ociguera: Well done, Bryson Bulldogs!

Christine Lai is a UCCE Master Gardener who joined Enrich LA in 2016. She began gardening in California in 2013 when she removed her parents’ lawn and replaced it with water wise landscaping. Today, her interests have widened to include edible and native plant gardening. She keeps a worm bin and misses the open compost pile in her old home terribly.
