Squash, Squash and More Squash at Alta Loma!

This week we learned all about the different parts of the plant and what plants need to grow!  We walked around the garden and noticed our giant squash growing and had a large harvest!  The students were so impressed, so of course we cut open some zucchini and squash for taste tests.  They were a huge hit!

We also learned how these all grow from flowers or blossoms but that they are fruit!

Originally from Arizona, I was brought out to beautiful Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California where I will be graduating come December with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies.  I grew up with a love of gardening from spending summers on my papou’s farm in Greece to helping my parents tend to our personal garden in Arizona.  My passion for the environment and gardening go hand-in-hand and I can’t wait to incorporate lessons from my studies to the students I am teaching at Alta Loma!
