Hybrid Creations at Alta Loma

Another rainy day had us inside so the class did a creative activity after learning about how scientists can manipulate seeds to create hybrid fruits and vegetables.  The challenge was for the students to work in groups and use their imaginations to create their own hybrid crop!  They had to give it a name, draw a photo, describe what it tastes and looks like, as well as how it grows in the garden.  Each group presented their creation for the rest of the class to see!

We also read some stories with the younger class!

Originally from Arizona, I was brought out to beautiful Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California where I will be graduating come December with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies.  I grew up with a love of gardening from spending summers on my papou’s farm in Greece to helping my parents tend to our personal garden in Arizona.  My passion for the environment and gardening go hand-in-hand and I can’t wait to incorporate lessons from my studies to the students I am teaching at Alta Loma!
