Signs of Summer at The Accelerated School!

The Accelerated School garden is blooming with sunflowers! The flowers brought some beautiful color to the garden and the students were thrilled by their size. We also spotted the first signs of summer crops on some cherry tomato plants. This was an exciting treat as there were enough for each student to pick their own! The tomatoes were juicy and ripe with flavor.

To prepare for more summer and fall crops the students stripped the beds of weeds and planted squash and cucumber seedlings along new marigolds. In a couple months when the students return to school the garden should be ripe with vegetables!

Originally from Arizona, I was brought out to beautiful Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California where I will be graduating come December with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies.  I grew up with a love of gardening from spending summers on my papou’s farm in Greece to helping my parents tend to our personal garden in Arizona.  My passion for the environment and gardening go hand-in-hand and I can’t wait to incorporate lessons from my studies to the students I am teaching at Alta Loma!
