Proposed Walgrove Elementary Greening Project
1630 WALGROVE AVENUE, Los Angeles, California, 90066
Principal: Olivia Adams 310 391 7104
In partnership with LAUSD, and Mia Lehrer and Associates and Walgrove Elementary School, Enrich La, a non-profit, proposes to create a schoolyard habitat encompassing 25,000 square feet of its campus formerly occupied by six bungalows. This is NOT AN EDIBLE GARDEN.
The proposed area has had its asphalt removed and a soils test has been conducted by OEHS.
To create a schoolyard habitat built on sound ecological principles for habitat restoration and on innovative educational programming. The schoolyard habitat design has been developed by the Architect in concert with teachers, ecologists and community-based environmental nonprofit groups.
This schoolyard habitat will offer an opportunity for all Walgrove students to become stewards of their landscape and to engage with nature in a very meaningful way. This has been demonstrated at Leo Politi Elementary School.
In summary the plan involves backfilling parts of the 25,000 sf site with OEHS approved imported dirt and to install decomposed granite and agricultural soil in the remaining parts. Sprinklers are to be installed along with trees and shrubs.
Scope of work: The scope of work and its cost is shared by the following entities;

Provide and install 13,800 square feet of Decomposed Granite in areas as shown.
Provide and install the remainder of the site with LAUSD-OEHS imported fill dirt.
