A week ago I arrived at Markham Middle School in Watts ready to get to working the garden with my students. Unfortunately there was a last minute scheduling conflict and the teachers couldn’t come out. There I was in the garden with a new load of mulch, but no one to help me move it into a field crowded with weeds where you couldn’t even see the strawberries and peppers growing.
Lucky for me a group of eager young leaders decided to ask their substitute teacher if they could come help in the garden, and within an hour the field went from total weed mess to this.
After all the hard work we enjoyed some freshly made lemonade and grapes in the shade.
The only girl who came out and helped was a bit camera shy
