It’s amazing how time flies by when you’re having fun. With two weeks left in the school year the students and I had a lot to do to prepare the garden for parent-student summer care. We worked hard during part of each class, and I had a gang of students who came in to help during recesses and one day after school. The biggest effort was in controlling our crab grass situation with a massive weeding effort and spreading mulch. Also our nematodes did the trick in treating the white grub infestation, so the students got to replant some of the beds. It was wonderful!
- Students made sure every type of plant was marked with a sign.
- Work well done everyone! Goodbye Beautiful Grand View!
- Last load to the compost.
- The after shot of organizing the tool shed, which was cluttered with ten years of accumulation (I should have taken a before shot too). My last good deed at Grand View.
- Placing cages around the tomato plants.
- One of my most consistent recess visitors, who brought in a star to hang from the new outdoor kitchen.
- Pre-K guy and an eggplant. Gettin’ ready to plant.
- Proudly weeding.
- Eggshells to fertilize this pepper plant.
- Watering is always a good time.
- One of many loads of mulch to address the crab grass.
- Planting eggplants!
- Every garden needs marigolds. They deter pests and attract pollinators. Thank you ladies.
- She’s a planting pro!
- Working together to replant, post-white grub infestation.
- Nice work replanting the bed!
- Nice teamwork guys!
- Replanting during recess, after the white grub infestation.
- Cutting string to prepare for planting. We use the string to separate the plants by 18 inches.
- Matches make a good fertilizer. The magnesium as good for tomatoes and peppers.
This year was my first and last year working with the students in the Grand View Elementary Garden. I am relocating to Colorado at the end of the summer. There are many moments to be cherished at Grand View Elementary and I will miss the Grand View community. They are exceptional.
Thank you with all my heart,
Miss Megan
