Tomas O’Grady is the executive director of Enrich LA, the environmental non-profit that he co-founded in 2010 to bring edible school gardens to public schools in the City of Los Angeles. Enrich LA has brought gardens to 23 schools and has plans in place for 25 more.
Tomas, a farmer’s son from the west of Ireland, lives in Los Feliz with his wife Justine and their four children. Tomas studied Industrial Engineering at the University of Limerick in Ireland and after immigrating to the US in 1990; he designed and developed real estate in Hoboken, New Jersey.
A well known environmental leader in the City of Los Angeles, Tomas is credited with the creation of the environmental studies magnet at Thomas Starr King Middle School in Los Feliz.
He designed and built his Los Feliz family home, modeled after Tara in Gone With The Wind. The home has been featured in numerous eco tours for its eco friendly design.
He ran unsuccessfully for City Council district 4 in 2011, despite being endorsed by the La Times who described him as follows “O Grady is energetic and likable. O’Grady’s background in business, devotion to environmental issues and hard work as an activist in L.A. Unified schools make him the most appealing alternative. The Times endorses O’Grady”
